Questions for New and Old Readers

1: Is Diryish more interesting than Kyrus Sr. and Kyrus Jr.?

2: Is the scifi getting in the way of the fantasy or should it be the other way around?

3: Am I introducing the sf too slowly?

4: Would you like to see more of the inner workings of the official zardukar?

5: Should I explain the differences between Ahy, Bee, Cee and Dee Manders and Cliners?

6: Anything else you'd like me to address?

  1. 1. Both interesting. I like having a variety of characters and settings.

    2. Personally I prefer fantasy, but the sci fi is not objectionable. It is melding quite well so far. If it was a *lot* heavier on the sci fi, it might turn me off.

    3.No

    4.Sure

5.Additional ongoing details in context are good, but I enjoy figuring things out as we go along rather than being spoon-fed all the stats.

6.I like the martial arts/staff training sequences, but that's just me.... ;)

  2. 1. Both are interesting.
    2. I don't find that either one is getting in the other's way. they seem to be playing fairly well off each other
    3. No.
    4. I think that would be very interesting to read
    5. details in a general 'common knowledge' sort of way. Beyond that, figuring thigns out as we go along is great
    6. Loving the story so far!

  3. 1. I would have said Sr. and Jr. until one of the recent posts where you had Diryish dealing with the code. I don't recall any of this from the first drafts and it really opened up another view. Now I would say I'm happier to read more from both viewpoints - and also those travelling.

    2. I'm happy with the various elements, though I am keen to hear more about the code and how that side of things works, and how everyone fits together. I'd keep reading however you mixed it.

    3. I'd like to hear more of the sf, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should speed it up - the pacing depends on the story and where it takes itself, I imagine. I like it to seem part of the whole, so a sudden change would be out of place.

    4. I think you can see from my other comments that I cetainly would.

    5. Again, though I'd love to know more, I'm sure it will come out at the appropriate time, particularly as Jr. learns more about mandery.

    6. I'm not quite sure how the programmers fit in fully, and why they are fully trustworthy but others close to Diryish aren't. I can see that they aren't directly in line to a position of power, but surely they actually hold very high positions behind the scenes, which they may prefer to do with a younger ruler? Is it part of their upbringing, a natural result of the gender roles, or are there stricter processes for choosing them than of the "court" in general? Obviously, no need to answer here, but I guess I'd like to know more about their backgrounds and paths too.

While I recognise much of the story from the first drafts, I am enjoying many of the details that you are adding this time around, though I have a nagging feeling that little things I liked are missing. I am pleased that life has sorted itself out (enough?) to allow you to continue revising and re-publishing the story on your blog.

  5. 1: Is Diryish more interesting than Kyrus Sr. and Kyrus Jr.?

    They are all very interesting.

2: Is the scifi getting in the way of the fantasy or should it be the other way around?

As long as you keep them balanced they work well together. Get to heavy on the SCI of the Sci Fi and you will loose my interest.

3: Am I introducing the sf too slowly?

    No

4: Would you like to see more of the inner workings of the official zardukar?

Yes, but not at the expense of seeing more Ky and family and friends.

5: Should I explain the differences between Ahy, Bee, Cee and Dee Manders and Cliners?

    It would be nice.

6: Anything else you'd like me to address?

When are you gonna be done reworking older portions of Kyrus Jr & Sr's story??

  6. I am currently mining out number 38 of the original fifty four or so... I'm adding in Dag and Mariush and the others and the new Diryish and Dukir and the Emiral...

I have more travelling scenes with Dukir and the Emir-al to write new...

Hmmm... I should be writing all new by post eighty or so... but adding in as I go...

  7. I've just come up with the 'modern'/fantasy version of a press on this planet. It's a blast. Ky's mom is going to make much of it.

  8. 1: No all three are captivating

2: I love what you are doing it is a perfect mix

3: Hmmmm no it is good

    4: Oh yes please

5: YES! that part leaves me very confused

6: I would love to know more of the history as the people see it... obviously they have lost much information but how do they explain how they came to be on the planet
